Instow and its part in the life of John Sweet

1951

Returned to England
At first stayed with my Aunty and Uncle in Grove Cottage, Instow, Devon and went to Instow Primary School, headmaster Reggie Way. The school consisted of only two class rooms and two teachers. Lunch arrived in large metal containers and was served at your desk. The toilets were in a separate building in the play ground. Physical education took place in the village hall across the road. Reggie had a cane hung over the blackboard as motivation to behave, there was occasional use of said cane.
