Instow and its part in the life of John Sweet

1962

1962 was the year of the Summits Rock Group. I met John, Chris and Bob at a youth club. My interest was the electronics and they had a group going with Gill as the singer. Did I want to join? To play what? Bass. But I cant play and don't own a bass. Never mind buy a bass and we will teach you. That is how it all started. Why the name Summits? Well Johnny  saw the name on a packet of guitar strings. Our first paid appearance was at a local youth club called the rock club. A bit of a rough joint and the dance ended up in a fight. Well at least we got one pound each.

  Fame at last

The NDJH again after we were in a competition at Exeter which turned out to be no more than a way for the organisers to put on a show, charged for entrance and the groups played for nothing.
